Hello! I’m Marieke (Mar-ee-kah), the photographer behind Marieke Captures.

Born in the Netherlands, hence the funny name!, but I’m proud to call this beautiful country that is Scotland my home now for six years.

The Story

For many years, I struggled with disordered eating and body dysmorphia, which led to my diagnosis of anorexia at the age of 20. During my recovery, I became aware of the severe negative impact that unrealistic and unhealthy bodies in photographs/media had on me and on society as a whole.

I've always had a passion for photography, and this realisation sparked an idea: what if I could combine my love for photography with a mission to promote body neutrality? By creating authentic and empowering photographs, I aim to place people at the heart of my work, leaving them feeling confident and empowered.

Through all the different chapters of my photography: Boudoir, Maternity, Birth, and Newborn, I aim to showcase the beauty, uniqueness, and strength of every body at each stage of life.

We all deserve to be celebrated and documented. No matter what society has taught us to believe otherwise.

I believe that gender is a spectrum, Marieke Captures is inclusive of plurality of femme voices including trans, queer, and non-binary people.

It is so Nice to Meet you!

My Way of Life

When I’m not behind the lens you can find me on the dance floor, gaming, making a sourdough loaf, or cosy curled up at home with a book in my hands. Whenever I get the chance, I love to go out for hikes with my beautiful partner and our dog.

Would you like to get to know me better? Follow me on my social media channels to see every day behind the scene glimpses.

I can’t wait to get to know you and to perhaps welcome you in front of my lens!
